On Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, some of the top Florida-bred colts and geldings will use the $100,000 Millions Classic Preview as a stepping stone to the Sunshine Millions Classic. The mile and a sixteenth contest has drawn a field of eight.
Headlining the field as the morning line favorite at 8-5 is Wildcat Red, a three-year-old son of D’Wildcat facing older rivals for the first time. Trained by Jose Garoffalo, the bay colt earned back to back graded stakes victories in the spring and was second, beaten a neck, in the Florida Derby (G1). He was last seen finishing third as the heavy favorite in the Oklahoma Derby (G3). He has had a bullet workout since that race and will have Edgar Prado aboard for the first time from post five.
Schivarelli trying for his first stakes win
Second choice at 2-1 on the morning line is the lightly-raced Schivarelli for trainer Eddie Kenneally. A sophomore son of Montbrook, he has won three of his four starts with his lone blemish being a fourth-place finish in the Wood Memorial (G1). He returned off of a six-month freshening in October to win an optional claiming race at Keeneland. Paco Lopez will be aboard as the chestnut colt tries to earn his first stakes win and they will break from post three.
East Hall going for back to back stakes victories
Also in the field at 3-1 on the morning line is East Hall, the upset winner of the Indiana Derby (G2). Trained by William Kaplan, the three-year-old son of Graeme Hall has won four of his eighteen starts, two of which came this year. Luis Saez, aboard for his longshot victory last time out, has retained the mount and they will break from post four. Since his last win, East Hall has clocked a bullet workout at Gulfstream Park.
