Lady Shipman is an imposing 4/5 morning line favorite for trainer Kathleen O’Connell after winning a pair of stakes races at Monmouth in her last two starts. The daughter of Midshipman won the Crank It Up Stakes June 6 and followed that score with an encore in the July 12 Klassy Briefcase Stakes to run her record to 6 wins in 8 career starts. Lady Shipman has won 5 of 6 starts this year, including stakes tallies in the OBS Sprint Stakes in January at Ocala and the Stormy Blue Stakes in April at Pimlico. Her lone setback was a third-place effort in the Wait a While Stakes May 16 at Belmont. The impressive filly has never finished worse than third and will be ridden by Eduardo Nunez breaking from post 9.
Miss Ella gets class relief
Miss Ella is the second choice on the morning line at odds of 5/1. Trained by Graham Motion, the lightly-raced filly made just her fourth career start July 4 at Belmont, finishing fourth in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes. That effort came after a seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes June 6 at Belmont. Miss Ella began her career with consecutive victories and looks to be getting some much-needed class relief.
Know Miss Ella early
A pure speedball, Super Saks, could be a dangerous item on the front-end for trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The well-traveled daughter of Sky Mesa has made 11 career starts and has generally impacted races with a strong burst of early foot.
