Stephanie's Kitten Headlines $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes
On Saturday at Arlington Park, some of the best grass fillies and mares will compete in the 25th running of the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes. The Grade 1 event will be run at a mile and three-sixteenths on the turf and has drawn a field of eleven.
Stephanie’s Kitten has been installed as the 7-2 morning line favorite in the competitive field for trainer Chad Brown. The five-year-old homebred daughter of Kitten’s Joy will have Frankie Dettori aboard carrying the red and white silks of Ken and Sarah Ramsey. A multiple graded stakes winner, Stephanie’s Kitten broke her maiden on the Arlington turf course as a juvenile before going on to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Chad Brown has two top contenders
Chad Brown will also send out Alterite (FR) with Javier Castellano aboard at odds of 4-1 on the morning line. The French-bred daughter of Literato (FR) will try to improve off of an eighth-place finish in the Diana (G1) in her only other start this year. Last year, the bay filly won her United States debut in the Garden City (G1) and was third in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf. She will break from post position nine.
Juddmonte homebred filly trying to rebound
Also in the field is Emollient, 5-1 on the morning line for trainer Bill Mott. Owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms, Inc., the four-year-old daughter of Empire Maker will have Joel Rosario back aboard following a ninth-place finish in the Diana (G1). A Grade 1 winner on both turf and synthetics, she is going for her sixth career win and first victory of the year. She is scheduled to break from post position four.
