
Salutos Amigos Tops Field of Six in $200,000 Palos Verdes Stake
On Sunday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $200,000 Palos Verdes Stakes. A Grade 2 event, the six furlong contest has drawn a field of six colts and geldings.
Salutos Amigos has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the compact but evenly-matched field at odds of 2-1 for trainer David Jacobson. A six-year-old son of Salute the Sarge, the bay gelding is a multiple graded stakes winner with ten total career victories. He was second in his first start of the year in the Midnight Lute Stakes (G3) last time out. Rafael Bejarano will be aboard and they will break from post position two.
Kobe's Back back from Breeders' Cup
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Kobe’s Back for trainer Peter Eurton. A five-year-old son of Flatter, he has been on the board in eight of his sixteen starts and is trying to earn his fourth victory. He has been on the shelf since finishing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) and has been training steadily since then. Gary Stevens will be aboard and they will break from the rail for his comeback effort.
Pulling G's trying for breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is Pulling G’s for trainer John Shirreffs. A five-year-old son of Curlin, the bay gelding has been on the board in eight of his twelve starts and is a four-time winner. He will be trying to earn the first graded stakes win of his career and is coming out of a third-place finish in the Midnight Lute Stakes (G3). Victor Espinoza will be aboard and they will break from post four.
