On Thursday at Laurel Park, the track will host the $100,000 Marshua Stakes. The six-furlong contest, restricted to three-year-old fillies, has attracted a field of eight contenders.
Eloquent Tribute has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 8-5 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. Purchased for $175,000 as a yearling, the bay daughter of Tapit broke her maiden in her sophomore debut at Aqueduct on January 4. Prior to that, she had been on the board in two of her three other starts. She has had a workout since her winning effort and will have Julien Pimental aboard from post position two.
Lake Sebago going for three wins in a row
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Lake Sebago, a multiple stakes winner trained by John Robb. After romping in her second career start at Laurel Park, she has since won back to back stakes races at the Maryland track. A bay daughter of Munnings, she has been training steadily for her three-year-old debut and will be trying to earn her third consecutive stakes win. She will get a rider change to Sheldon Russell and they will break from post five.
Rockin Jojo making three-year-old debut
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Rockin Jojo for trainer Bernard Houghton. A chestnut daughter of Street Magician, she broke her maiden in her second career start as a juvenile and earned the first stakes win of her career last time out against Pennsylvania-bred competition at Penn National in November. She was third in her only other start at Laurel, the Maryland Million Lassie, and will have Matthew Rispoli aboard from the rail.
