Eight Fillies Line up for $75,000 Cincy Trophy Stakes
The $75,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes is the featured event February 14 at Turfway Park with eight three year-old fillies set to contest the six and a half furlong event on the Polytrack.
Right On Kitten is the 5/2 morning line favorite for trainer Michael Maker despite dropping the first race of her career January 3 in the Ginger Brew Stakes with a disappointing eighth place finish. Prior to that effort, Right On Kitten (2 for 3 lifetime) won the October 11 La Senorita Stakes at Retama Park. The daughter of Kitten’s Joy has never raced on a synthetic surface with all three career starts coming on turf.
Cara Marie comfortable on Poly
Cara Marie, the 3/1 second choice, broke her maiden with aplomb December 21 at Turfway after two unsuccessful tries at Belmont Park. The Kellyn Gorder trainee appeared quite comfortable over the synthetic footing and is well-bred as a daughter of Unbridled’s Song out of an A.P. Indy mare suggesting plenty of room for improvement. Jockey Jack Gilligan will get the call breaking from post number eight.
Bossy (7/2) has won two of five starts for trainer Wayne Catalano and has looked promising sprinting on the turf at Fair Grounds. In her last start the daughter of Street Boss easily dispatched allowance foes on December 31. The transition to synthetic does not figure to pose problems for Bossy whose sire was a multiple graded stakes winner on the surface.
