On Saturday at Belmont Park, the featured race is the $100,000 English Channel Stakes. Restricted to three-year-olds, the one mile turf race has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
A Lot tops the competitive field at odds of 3-1 on the morning line for trainer Bill Mott. A bay son of Tapit, he was purchased for $410,000 as a yearling and has been on the board in eight of his ten starts with three victories. The consistent colt has been second in his last three starts since winning the Paradise Creek Stakes in May. Junior Alvarado will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from the outside post.
Nonna's Boy trying to rebound after flat performance
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-2 is Nonna’s Boy for trainer Todd Pletcher. A bay son of Distorted Humor bred and owned by Repole Stable, he has won three of his eight starts and earned his first black type victory two starts back. He is trying to move forward after finishing fourth in the Saranac Stakes (G3) last time out and has been training steadily since that race. John Velazquez will be aboard from post position four.
Surface switch to turf for stakes winner March
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is March for trainer Chad Brown. A dark bay colt from the first stallion crop of Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Blame, he has won three of his seven starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. Both of those stakes victories came on dirt and he is trying to rebound after a pair of poor performances. He will switch surfaces and have Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard from post position eight.
