Biggest Horse Races in New Jersey

The state of New Jersey hosts three major horse races each year. They have become the focal point of horse racing along the East Coast over the past couple of years. 

United Nations Stakes

Inaugurated in 1953, the United Nations Stakes is also held at Monmouth Park in July. The race has a purse of $750,000 and is open to thoroughbreds age three and up. This race is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.

Tony Gatto Dream Big Stakes

The Tony Gatto Dream Big Stakes is held at the Atlantic City Race Course, which is located in Mays Landing, New Jersey. This race is only nine years old and has a purse of $50,000. 

Haskell Invitational Handicap

The Haskell Invitational Stakes is held at Monmouth Park in Long Branch, New Jersey, along the shore. It originated in 1968 and features the top three-year-old thoroughbreds in the country. Participation in the race is by invitation only.
